I was reading up on one of my favorite bloggers, Messy Mama’s posts last week when, WHAM! There was my blog name tagged at the bottom to continue this fun version of a chain letter. It’s always a warm fuzzy feeling when you are made aware that someone else sees and appreciates what you are trying to do out here in the blogosphere. Thank you so much Loretta! I love feeling plugged in and connecting with others. I hope that my weekly messages convey that we truly are more alike than different in our individual journey.
Firstly, my fellow reinvention pioneers- Ya’ll know that I keep it pretty real with you. (I still get some shade thrown my way on occasion over the sex pact. Yes! It is still on!) You may feel you know me pretty intimately and that is absolutely correct. But we are complex, multi-faceted, ever-evolving gorgeous creatures so there is always more to learn and discover, right?!
Before we get to spilling the tea here are the basics:
1. Share 7 facts about yourself that aren’t super present in your blog.
2. Tag 7 bloggers you adore.
3. Shout out back to me, so I can I read and get to know everyone more too.
And now! Without further ado!
1. I love tattoos and have somewhere upwards of 20.
I tried counting but kept finding more tiny ones in discrete locations. I have been a tattoo lover since the age of 15. Got my first tattoo at age 16 and just kept on adding from there. Tattoos have become an important part of my grief and healing process. Creating a piece of body art as a tribute to someone else or to a significant event in my life is a valuable and valid form of self expression to me. And no, I am not going to care what they look like when I am 80.
2. We are an avid homeschooling family.
We made the decision to homeschool our one and only daughter in kindergarten after a negative experience left her hating school and a shell of her former vivacious self. I have often dubbed our family “unintentional homeschoolers” because prior to us being desperate enough to look for alternative schooling options I was a full fledged public school success story and believer. I am so lucky to have fallen into this community of open-minded, creative and determined educators who want their child’s educational experience to be enriching and unique. Now, going into our fourth year of homeschooling I am more confident and well versed and love our freedom. We have never looked back!
3. In my former life I was an Occupational Therapist.
I worked my entire adult life in healthcare. From Certified Nursing Assistant to Rehabilitation Aide to Occupational Therapist. I spent over 13 years in an outpatient rehabilitation setting with a smattering of floating around in acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing facility, inpatient hospital and pediatrics. I specialized in the treatment of lymphedema and also specialized in pelvic floor dysfunction. I am the Kegel Queen! I loved my career and my patients. However, my mom’s sudden death left me feeling unable to give of myself the way I wanted to with my patients. I felt empty and hollow. So I walked away. Eventually I felt compelled to explore more creative aspects of myself that had long been dormant. I have zero regrets.
4. I curse often and unapologetically.
Okay, this fact perhaps you have gleaned from reading my blog. I don’t censor here or in real life. I don’t get too hung up on curse words and I have a difficult time understanding why others feel profanity is so offensive. In my opinion words are tools of self-expression. I may tailor my word choice to my audience but the fact is sometimes life requires words like “fuck”.
5. I love listening to live music.
Mr. Reinvention and I share a love of all genres of music, barring country music. I have had the opportunity to see many live performers over the course of my lifetime. Some of my favorites include: Guns N Roses, Depeche Mode, Nas, Pearl Jam, The Lillith Fair performers, Lolapalooza, Lizzo, Lady Gaga, The Grateful Dead, and Kendrick Lamar. Just to name a few. I saved all of my concert ticket stubs until things went paperless. There is just nothing like the energy of a live show! We also love many of our talented local groups like Spred the Dub , The Spam Allstars and JM and the Sweets. We are passing on our love of music, live music and concert events to Baby Reinvention. She is a diverse fan of music, has a tremendous memory and ear, and an affinity for all things Beatles.
6. I am a MAJOR FOODIE
I love, love, love delicious foods and drinks. All kinds. All ethnicities. Anytime. I love street food and fine dining and everything in between. When we travel, one of our favorite things to do is explore local restaurants, markets and food culture. There is very little I won’t try. I draw the line at organs after anatomy and physiology lab dissection class but I know that’s my own hang-up. I especially love all seafood, sashimi and sushi, bourbon, tequila, cheeses and charcuterie, and chocolate.
7. I am still figuring out this whole blog thing……
Reinvention is a Mutha is almost one year old! I cannot even believe how quickly the time has flown passed. I feel very comfortable with my content and writing style. I now accept that I may not grow as quickly as I initially hoped. I understand that if I want massive growth I may need to sacrifice my time in other aspects of life to nurture my blog. And frankly, I am too busy living to do that. I have definitely arrived at a crossroads. Am I going to monetize the blog? Am I going to dive into writing my memoir? Am I going to focus on my journal with prompts? So many opportunities to pursue! For the moment I would love to learn how to insert images into my content space- because for the life of me I can’t figure that out!
There you have it! Seven fun facts about me! Thank you for reading and seriously- if you can help with an explanation of inserting pictures I will take it!
Here is my list of other fun blogs that I adore who I hope will play along. In no particular order:
Check these lovelies out!
xxxxxx- until next time!
